It’s our mission to rescue and restore abandoned and stray animals, giving each an opportunity for a new life and loving home, through adoption and education.

The Babinski Foundation is a private 501c3 animal shelter located in Pequot Lakes, MN. We are a safe and judgement-free place to surrender dogs and cats and a stray drop-off facility for stray cats and dogs.

Licensed to care for up to 200 animals at a time, we're the largest shelter in the Brainerd Lakes area. Beyond our local community, we partner with rescues on the Leech Lake and Red Lake reservations, offering animal shelter as well as adoption services and a mobile clinic providing affordable spay/neuter and vaccination services to underserved areas.

Since our grand opening in 2017, we have rescued over 8,800 animals, and in 2024 alone, we have taken in over 1,450 animals.

If you can believe it, the pictures below are of the same dog. Bob Marley was a precious boy that The Babinski Foundation rescued alongside twenty-nine other dogs in similar states of distress. The environment that these dogs were living in could make a heart break. Without proper access to safe and sanitary conditions, many of these dogs were in dire need of extensive medical attention and socialization. We were able to provide medical care, grooming, and socialization opportunities for these pups to prepare them for their new lives. We are thrilled to say every dog from this rescue has found a home, found love, and found comfort in their own skin. These dogs are so deserving of their new homes, and we are so thankful for the support from our community that allowed Bob Marley and his friends to find their forever families.

At 10 weeks old, these sweet girls have experienced more hardship than you can imagine. These kittens were abandoned in a local alley dumpster and left to perish. A kind community member heard their cries, saved them from their fate, and brought them to The Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter. They were given medical treatment, formula, and lots of love and care. Sadly, and despite our best efforts, two of the kittens passed away due to the harsh conditions and the state of their health when they were rescued. One of our amazing fosters took these babies in until they were old enough and strong enough to return to the shelter. Fuchsia and Freesia are now bigger, healthy, and ready to find their forever homes. They're the most gentle and trusting girls who will warm your heart with their darling personalities. They love to rest in your arms or curl up with one another. They'll continue to grow into strong and beautiful girls.

The Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter is a drop-off facility for stray and abandoned animals. We urge community members to reach out and utilize our resources rather than seek alternative and cruel options. Donations aid us in caring for animals like Fuchsia and Freesia as we continue to educate the public on animal welfare and decrease cases of animal dumping in our community.

Thank you for taking a moment to learn more about what we do and for considering donating to our cause during Give to the Max Day. We could not do this without you.
