The Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter is home to multiple FIV+ and FeLV+ cats. These cats are so incredibly sweet and deserving of love, but they are often overlooked due to their virus. Read below to learn more about FIV+ and FeLV+ cats and consider donating to help us support them and provide them with a chance to find a forever home!

FIV: Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is transmitted to cats most often through bite wounds. This virus weakens the immune system, allowing a cat to be more susceptible to infection and illness. Many cats can live with FIV and display no symptoms. They can live long and healthy lives as long as they are kept indoors and cared for properly with routine vet care and proper observation. FIV cannot transmit to humans or dogs.

FeLV: Feline Leukemia Virus is transmitted through saliva and other bodily fluids and may cause a number of health issues. Cats diagnosed with FeLV see shorter life spans, so we do everything we can to make their lives comfortable and enjoyable. FeLV weakens a cat's immune system and causes them to be susceptible to infection and illness. It can cause anemia, cancer, and other symptoms such as weight loss, fever, skin infections, and upper respiratory infections. With proper care and observation, FeLV positive cats can have a wonderful and comfortable life with a loving family for however long their people are blessed to have them.
