Every Family Flourishes

Main Street Family Services is a community-based non-profit agency dedicated to providing multiple types of services including support groups, parenting skills, parent coaching, supervised visitation, training, and outpatient therapy. 

When families become isolated and struggle to access basic needs, children are at risk for abuse and neglect.  Our mission is to equip families with the solutions, resources, and practical strategies needed to thrive. By addressing the root causes and offering essential resources, the agency aims to support families, fostering healing and belonging.

Main Street Family Services is asking you to join us in eliminating child abuse and neglect, creating a future where every family flourishes, and every child experiences a safe, loving, nurturing home.  That's why in 2025 we are expanding our efforts - opening two Family Resource Center's in Elk River and Big Lake! We invite you to join our 2025 Every Family Flourishes Campaign!

The Family Resource Center is dedicated to providing information, referrals, advocacy, and assistance to our neighbors. Our goal is to help create stability for families by creating connections of support with schools, local services, community partners, corporate and government agencies, and faith communities. We help our neighbors meet their basic needs and provide skills and resources to achieve self-sufficiency. Together, we want a stronger, healthier, and connected community where every family flourishes.

Below is a story shared by one of our family support specialists about a family who we served at Main Street Family Services:

“Katie was five years old and separated from her mother, Amanda. Katie was living in foster care and visited her mother once a week for two hours at our office. During the first visits, Katie would hide from her mother and have bathroom accidents. She never sat still and ran around the room, sometimes clinging to my leg.  I truly did not believe that this family would be reunified. Amanda was a victim of domestic violence; she was homeless and struggling with her mental health and addictions.  Amanda seemed oblivious to Katie’s stress. 

I shared my concerns with my supervisor. She told me, "We cannot predict the outcomes of walking alongside families through their darkest times." Sometimes people surprise us, and she encouraged me that I might witness a miracle. So faithfully we met weekly, and little by little things did change. Amanda began to heal, and Katie began to feel safe. I was witnessing a miracle. I watched Amanda break free from the drugs and bad relationships. She found stable housing and a job. 

It wasn’t an easy road, but her relentless determination turned the tide. I had the privilege of walking with her through tears, laughter, setbacks, and victories. With Amanda's commitment to change, and supportive guidance, she was reunified with Katie. Recently, Amanda and Katie stopped by Main Street Family Services and Amanda was beaming from ear to ear as she shared that she and Katie were doing well!  They had a home, Amanda was working, Katie was in school and flourishing, and they were so thankful for all the support they had a Main Street!

I learned an amazing lesson, even the most broken families can heal. What an honor it has been to walk with families, such as Amanda and Katie, helping them navigate challenges, find resources, and watch miracles happen. I am so blessed to know these courageous people and to walk with them as they heal."
