Update #2

Honeybear the Chowchow

Too wild, uncontrollable, untrainable, too aloof, too independent, free spirited: our fluffy dogs taken in by Home for Life ahead of their euthanasia dates from local shelters and impounds were finding it ruff going in rescue and dim prospects for help, even though two were not even a year old, and the oldest only age 3.  Huskies, Chowchows, Shiba Inu- all often have a very tough time when given up to shelters and rescues. The very qualities which make it difficult for them to find a home or keep the home they have are the qualities we cherish at Home for Life! In 2024 we were able to offer care for life sanctuary to 4 fluffers: a Chowchow, a Shiba and two huskies - who were facing euthanasia due to troubled behaviors that revealed their extreme despair, stress and frustration while in shelter and impound.  Confinement and life in a conventional home are not the strong suit of these free-spirited spirited dogs who retain many characteristics of their wild cousins like wolves. When they are given up to shelters, impound or rescue, it's difficult to find them new homes because they are so challenging to manage. All 4 of our fluffy dogs were unable to find help through rescues but have thrived at Home for Life, an environment with expectations consistent   with the best of their breed characteristics as well as more room to play and run, and an organizational philosophy which cherishes them for all that they are instead of trying to reshape them into dogs they can never be. The very qualities for which they may be shunned are protected and treasured at Home for Life, where they reach their potential to be the best dogs they can be.

In the Updates, meet Buddy the Shiba Inu, Skippyjon Jones and Jeremiah the Huskies and Honeybee the Chowchow, who all found a home for life at our sanctuary in 2024 after close calls at impound and shelters.  They are looking for their own sponsors who will take ab interest in and help support them at Home for Life,   following their progress through quarterly updates  and photos.

DID YOU KNOW?  It takes Home for Life $200 per month- $2400  a year- to care for the average animal at the sanctuary. Animals with special needs or medical conditions cost much more.  That monthly cost covers expenses like food, veterinary care, medicines, grooming, and the salaries of our staff who care for the animals 24/7 365 days a year as well as facility support such as heat and lights.  With our typical sponsorship of $25 per month or $300 per year,  we need 8 sponsors per animals to fully care for each animal at the sanctuary. Read more about our unique sponsorship program here, where you can make a lifesaving difference for a dog or cat who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn:  https://www.homeforlife.org/sponsor

Buddy, Skippyjon, Jeremiah and Honeybear were rescued by Home for Life, their lives saved in the nick of time We had no sponsors pledged at the time we took them in on faith. Yet we believed they were good dogs who needed understanding, compassion and a place to belong. Sponsors help provide that opportunity for dogs like these who might otherwise have no other chance to find safety and happiness.

Wish you could give dogs like Buddy, Skipppyjon, Jeremiah and Honeybear a home?  Now you Can!

As a sponsor, your monthly or annual donation will help us to continue providing a secure, healthy environment where animals who were formerly abused, neglected, and rejected can thrive and begin again to participate in the joy of being that is the right of all living things. You can make a difference if you believe as we do. One animal matters. One sanctuary can change the direction of animal welfare, and one person can make a difference for a desperate animal in need with nowhere to turn. Let that one person be YOU!
