I love storytelling and all kind of media! My girls and I have recently started attending plays that reflect stories of BIPOC kids like them. Growing up, my mom was a traditional Hmong singer and she told stories through Kwv Txhiaj (a form of song poetry). Media is powerful because it shapes and pushes certain stories and frames what stories we should or shouldn't prioritize. It allows me to hel pmy kids feel belonging and have a place in our world. That's why this year, I decided to add St Paul Neighborhood Network to my list of volunteer responsibilities. I appreciate the work they do and the immense impact they have on the stories we uplift.
Staff at SPNN lead classes for both youth and adults on media education. Their access centers allow members to rent a variety of tech to create their own media-related projects. I love that SPNN works with youth to help them produce creative voices uplifting community stories ad voices. Here is an example of a Halloween skit produced by Focus Beyond students: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Gax2ZNznW/
Help me raise $500 towards SPNN's program and resources. Your donation makes ripple effects beyond one story - it can create changes for entire communities when we uplift often invisible voices.
