Racial Justice: Truth and Reparations

DISMANTLING THE STRUCTURES AND REPAIRING THE DAMAGE OF RACISM IN MINNESOTA

In the wake of the police killing of George Floyd the church bodies leading Minnesota Council of Churches announced a 10-year vision for truth and reparations to be enacted through the Council.

Through the work of Rev. Pamela Ngunjiri and Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs we have developed a robust program of education, training and reparations planning.

In 2024 this included:

• Presence at the statewide Martin Luther King Jr., breakfast, 
• Publishing a chapter about land back in the church facility book "Gone for Good," 
• Speaking to congregations about racial justice and reparations, 
• Hosting BIPOC faith leaders for a time of pastoral comfort led by Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, 
• Offering a keynote at the Facilitating Racial Equality Conference and its dozen-plus satellite locations

Our team continues to educate about Minnesota's racial legacy, help communities develop cross-racial competency, and facilitate actions for repair in Minnesota.
