Heritage and Renewal
We are seeking assistance in renovating our nearly 100 year old barn. The barn, built in 1927, was purchased by Camphill in 1980 along with the farmhouse and farming machinery. These major purchases are recognized as the beginning of our organization and remain key pieces in our community’s purpose of leading a self-sustaining lifestyle.
Don’t Wait! Help Us Save Our Barn for Future Generations!
Over the years, we have made several updates. However, our barn is now dealing with foundational issues, impacting its usability and safety for our land workers. Due to Minnesota’s harsh winters, the exterior of the barn is in vital need of renovation. Annual rain and snow have eroded up to 3 feet of the barn base. This update requires the installation of new base walls, studs, siding, and paint. Additionally needed are new windows and new doors on the top portion of the barn.
Here's Why Your Support is Essential:
- Our barn is used to house livestock such as cattle and our poultry flocks. Additionally, we use the barn to store the hay we grow, harvest and process that is used to feed our cattle year-long. Our barn is fundamental for our community to maintain its aim of self-sustainability.
- Our barn and the care of the animals that reside within it, is essential in creating enriching work that promotes emotional, physical and social growth for individuals with and without developmental disabilities. We believe that by renovating the barn, we can not only preserve its historical value but also create a space that benefits the entire community.
- These updates will ensure the economic and environmental sustainability of our farming community. It also secures our mission of being both a teaching and learning farm for individuals with disabilities as well as non-disabled individuals seeking organic, bio-dynamic farming and gardening experiences.
