Be Extraordinary Be You Fundraiser

After losing our 21-year-old son to cannabis-induced psychosis and subsequent suicide in July 2021, we founded Be Extraordinary, Be You. Our mission is to inspire young people to embrace their authentic selves and strive for greatness.

Our journey began when our son, seeking acceptance, started using marijuana at just 15 years old. He quickly developed an addiction. While we knew he was struggling, we didn’t fully understand that today’s THC is vastly different from the marijuana of previous generations. Modern, high-potency cannabis poses significant risks to developing minds, including cannabis-induced psychosis, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, and depression.

Our son left us many gifts. As we uncovered his videos, journals, and phones, we discovered many documents and moments that told a powerful story. From these, we created a poignant video chronicling his decline over his final nine months. This became the foundation of our presentations for youth and adults, blending scientific research with the deeply personal account of our son’s experience.

Through these presentations, we aim to educate parents and students about the dangers of today’s high-potency marijuana and its effects on developing brains, empowering them to make informed decisions. Our ultimate goal is to prevent other families from experiencing the heartbreak we’ve endured—a mission we believe our son would wholeheartedly support.
