Analog Dance Works is laying the foundation for its third contemporary dance production, Biomes, to premiere May, 2026, at the Luminary Arts Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Biomes is a contemporary dance work that unearths hard-earned love with our natural environments. We explore this through three perspectives: as humans, as plants, and by zooming out to the biomes that make up the ecosystems on our planet.

The three perspectives will each be a chapter in the overall work:

-Stewards: The Animal Kingdom. What is our relationship to our environment? How did we learn to care about it, and how did we become so disconnected? How do we return to this care, and how would we value our environment differently? In this section of the work, the focus will be on specific humanistic roles: the Hunter, the Farmer, the Steward, the Inheritor, the Scientist, and the Disconnected.

-The Other Kingdom: The Plant Kingdom. The sciences are only beginning to unravel the complexities of plants’ biological agencies. Nothing is solidified beyond a philosophical investigation, but evidence is building and discussions broadening on plants’ consciousness and intelligence. One thing is certain, that if the current definitions of ‘consciousness’ and ‘intelligence’ exist in plants, it is completely foreign to the Animal Kingdom even though we share the same planet.

-Biomes: this chapter will unite the two Kingdoms in one ecosystem. How will these worlds listen to each other? Will they find hard-earned love for each other?

The goal of this work is to inspire our audiences to choose beautiful complexity in the world we share over divisive oversimplification. It is built on the research of prior works created by the choreographer including whitetail deer and the emotion, awe.

Analog Dance Works is fiscally sponsored by Springboard for the Arts, making your donation tax deductible. Thank you for your support!
