Update #2
In another year of exploring our special region, Agate Magazine has delved into treaty rights, climate disruptions, invasive species, and mining.
Together, we continue to learn about the natural history of this dear place on earth, with stories on themes ranging from fireflies to groundwater to fossils.
We've tapped into the insights of leading scientific researchers, advocates, and political leaders.
We've celebrated the creative work of new contributing writers, photographers and poets.
If you’d like to help support Agate’s work, this is a great time of year to make a donation. Thank you!
Agate Magazine is named for the Lake Superior agate—a complex, beautiful stone that, like our magazine, reflects the unique character of this special place.
Agate brings the reader along as it unravels nature's complexities, investigates environmental issues, and celebrates the deep affection of residents for this landscape and its wildlife. With a blend of literary and journalistic writing, stunning photography, audio and multi-media stories, Agate illuminates the natural world here in the "Near North."
