Update #8
We celebrated the grand opening of Strive Bookstore on June 2, 2023!
Thanks to community support and encouragement we have gone from publishing two books a year to selling hundreds of books a month. We are slowly curating an inventory of books that represent our community and inform hungry minds. Your continued support in building our book inventory and literary community events is greatly appreciated.

“A fiscally sponsored project of Springboard for the Arts. To give to Springboard: https://givemn.org/organization/Springboard-For-The-Arts”
Donate to help us get more children's books by and about African Americans into local schools and to support local authors with stipends for classroom visits (currently online/virtual).
Moving forward we are striving to add more online access to the community, to include workshops and events featuring local Black writers, artists, and professionals in the fields of education, social services, community development and social justice. We want to be intentional about sharing stories that show the full range of Black life and Black culture and Black history.
We are also working on a project (The Short Story Dispenser) that will provide free short stories to the community, while providing a pathway for emerging writers to submit their work.
“Strive Publishing is a calling for me, Strive Publishing is also an opportunity for others, and Strive Publishing can be a mirror for young readers, but also a window for society...”
— Mary Taris, Founder/CEO
Strive Publishing's vision is to give all children the opportunity to see African American and Black Culture from different perspectives, and to provide pathways for illuminating stories across generations and cultures.
Funding will pay stipends for Black writers and artists to share their work and to share the power of Black stories to heal, teach, learn, and earn. Strive works in partnership and collaboration with organizations that promote literature, education, and the arts to publish books and to bring events and workshops into the community that uplift and empower Black voices (virtually/online/in person). Funding will also pay for the operation of and program development for the Strive Short Story Dispenser.
We hope you take some time to see what children's books Strive has to offer, and to see how you can be a part of our growing movement to build a Black lives literary arts initiative right here in Minnesota.
