About Faith, the cat pictured in the fundraiser, and saved by Home for Life October, 2024

Here we go again. Have faith- we are going to help you

From Minneapolis Animal Control, email received today as Home for Life is one of their rescue partners:

"This sweet little lady is named “Faith” – she is 1 years old and was owner surrendered to us this morning. She was attacked by a dog in the middle of the night and the owner was unable to afford vet care. Our vets sedated her this morning and found small punctures to her right front leg. Her front leg also feels broken. Our vets were unable to find any other puncture wounds but there is bruising and marks on her chest so we are very concerned about further internal injuries. We are unable to provide any additional diagnostics and can only give her pain medication to keep her stable but she needs more than that. Due to this she has a deadline to be tagged AND picked up by 2:00pm TODAY so she can get additional veterinary care or we will have to proceed with humane euthanasia.

Please email the MACC Rescue email with questions or to tag her. We will keep a close eye on the email but please note we do have a big adoption event today starting at 1pm."

"Hey everyone,

Home for Life swooped in at the last minute and is going to take Faith on.

Thank you Home for Life!"

Home for Life's mission saves the lives of cats like Faith who was impounded at an animal control and facing euthanasia after her leg was broken by a dog but also is on the front lines of responding to animals in need who are not finding help through other rescues. As a care-for-life sanctuary, we can do things other groups cannot.

Home for Life® has always taken a different approach to addressing problems in animal welfare. We believe that it is impossible to benefit animals as a whole without caring about each individual animal. While we are mindful of the broad factors affecting animal populations, our focus and service have always been directed toward individual animals. And by serving individual animals, we have been able to exert widespread influence on the direction of animal welfare practice.

2024 has been an unprecedented year when many grievously injured animals like Faith have needed our help, and also many abandoned animals and even kittens out  out in the cold and without help.  Home for Life saves the lives of the cats and dogs that may not be eligible for placement thru conventional rescues and shelter programs  to give as many animals as possible a chance.

The millions of suffering, lonely and unwanted animals are made up of individuals like Faith pictured above, or Rue, on our front page, a cat who was thrown out of a 12th story window in Minneapolis. Whenever we disregard or devalue one of them, we place all animals in jeopardy, since any dog or cat can lose their home, become old, injured or ill and unwanted. What keeps animals safe and cherished is our attitude towards them, and our capacity to care. For animals who are vulnerable, everywhere, we can’t turn away from tough cases like feline leukemia positive cats or consider their fate of negligible consequence. Saving an animal is more than a metaphor. It matters! Whenever you step up for one animal, you are taking a stand for all animals in similar situations. You are demonstrating what is possible.

In a system designed to handle problems on a mass scale, individuals can be overlooked. Yet behind every data point and every number is an individual, with a story and the need for someone to recognize all that makes them special. .Home for Life’s® focus on overlooked individuals has enabled us to spot gaps in the animal welfare system where cats or dogs are underserved and vulnerable, to identify where change needs to happen, and where there is opportunity for widespread improvement.

Home for Life®, an internationally recognized care for life sanctuary, and in 2019, voted one of the 10 Most Amazing Sanctuaries in the country by USA Today, offers a service to animals in need like no comparative organization. Many shelters and rescue organizations aspire to find a home for every animal and dream of the day when there will be no homeless animals. At Home for Life®, that's what we want too—and that's what we provide—for dogs and cats that are overlooked for placement. Home for Life® has created a new idea, the care for life sanctuary—a life- saving and life affirming alternative for dogs and cats who have not been able to find a home or keep the home they had and for animals who have lifelong special care needs, that most adopters cannot provide. We call our idea the "Third Door" in animal welfare which gives at risk dogs and cats, animals who might have been passed over for adoption, an alternative to an undeserved death. The dream of a home should be an opportunity that is available for all dogs and cats, and now with Home for Life®, and the innovative model we have created at our prototype sanctuary in Star Prairie, WI, it can be!
