HERE TO HELP INDIVIDUALS THROUGH MENTAL HEALTH AND RECOVERY SERVICES
Everything the Human Development Center (HDC) does
promotes the empowerment of all who live, work, and play in our community.
OUR MISSION:
HDC's mission is to foster hope, resilience, and recovery by providing integrated, culturally respectful mental health and recovery services.
HDC is the largest community mental health center in Northern Minnesota, providing comprehensive integrated mental health and recovery services to all ages across Carlton, Lake, and St. Louis counties in Minnesota and Douglas County, Wisconsin.
All those who seek HDC’s help can expect the highest quality of care, together with rapid and unobstructed access to care for all people regardless of personal circumstances or ability to pay.
We need your help! With a gift of $25, $50, or even $100 you can help ensure that
everyone gets the treatment they need and deserve!
“What’s so important about a community mental health agency is that we need the support of our community... We need to bring awareness to the work that we are doing... The more our community can get behind us and support us through financial means, the more we can strengthen our community as a whole.”
Mental illness is so common that almost half of all U.S. adults will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. This means that you are more likely to experience mental illness than you are to develop heart disease, diabetes, or any kind of cancer. However, the majority of people experiencing mental illness never overcome the stigma to get treatment.
Many prefer to ignore those facing mental health challenges. This doesn't have to be the case! Affordable, effective treatments exist, and ignoring these problems costs more than caring for them. We can and must do better!
Let’s make sure that mental illness is no longer ignored and kept a secret.
WHO WE ARE AND WHERE WE’VE BEEN:
HDC was established over 80 years ago as a non-profit community mental health center. HDC serves the residents of Carlton, Lake, and southern St. Louis counties in Minnesota and Douglas County in Wisconsin.
On February 1, 2019, HDC became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The CCBHC model improves mental health and substance abuse treatment by creating greater and quicker access to services for all clients, regardless of ability to pay. Through care coordination services, HDC clients can expect a higher level of care.
HDC is proud to offer a comprehensive set of services to the clients it serves. HDC clients can receive any number of services provided by an integrated team of professionals. Psychiatry, psychotherapy, adult and child case management, and outreach services are all available on a sliding fee scale through HDC’s friendly and knowledgeable staff.
