A YEAR OF CARE CRISES

Loved ones living and working in the long-term care sector this past year have endured multiple crises. From COVID-19 upending family visits, to the shattering loss of loved ones to disease and loneliness, and staff shortages so severe the National Guard needed to be called in there are plenty of heartbreaking headlines to look back on.

FIGHTING FOR QUALITY, ACCOUNTABLE CARE

We choose to push forward towards accountable care for our elders and loved ones. Elder Voice Family Advocates is the only organization in Minnesota exclusively dedicated to representing elders and vulnerable adults to protect them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We advocated tirelessly in support of essential caregivers and worked alongside the Minnesota Department of Health to ensure the Assisted Living Licensure outlined in our 2019 Elder Care Reform Legislation launched on August 1st, 2021. 

Your financial contributions, attendance at committee meetings and rallies of support at the Capitol Rotunda helped get us here. But our work is far from done. We need to build on our legislative success to continue improving the protections for our elders and vulnerable adults.

KEEP OUR VOICE STRONG

We must continue to be aggressive educators and advocates for our elders and vulnerable adults and their families. We will be working to:

• Educate citizens throughout Minnesota about their new rights and protections.
• Monitor the implementation of the new law and communicate progress or problems.
• Initiate and support positive legislation in 2021 and fight attempts to weaken current law or introduce harmful legislation.
• Help elders, vulnerable adults, and their families to be effective advocates for safe, quality care that is free from abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
• Make sure legislative candidates understand the importance of keeping and strengthening the Elder Care Reform Law.
