Wild Geranium Fund is a unique opportunity to specifically invest in the futures of Black Youth from the vibrant & powerful communities of Powderhorn, Bryant, Central and Bancroft whose high school experience was punctuated and defined not only by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the murder of George Floyd in the streets of our neighborhood.
For recipients, we hope that these $2000 microgrants will be an effective tool in building your dreams. Whether it be basic needs, college, travel, a vehicle, we believe your financial needs deserve funding and community support.
Who We Are:
Wild Geranium Fund is a project led by volunteer staff at CANDO. Lucy Geach is our Program Coordinator and Ann Koller and Brittan Donohoe are support staff for this program. The three of us are a group of neighbors who connected as participants in the Bryant Neighborhood Organization’s (BNO) European Dissent/Descent group in direct response to a call from Black leadership at CANDO/BNO for white folks to get together to build anti-racist culture. After over a year of building together internally, we are ready to do good in our neighborhood in a tangible sense. Our experience in youth work, education, social work, mental health and as Central Neighborhood community members shape this microgrant fund.
Why We Are Doing This:
This fund was created to create meaningful change for youth in our community. Wild Geranium Fund seeks to interrupt both systemic divestment from Black youth and also wealth distribution that favors white people. We are leaning into our sphere of influence to create positive change in our neighborhoods. Because we believe that people are experts in their own needs, this grant is open-ended. Recipients can choose to use their funds for whatever purpose is most meaningful to them.
Wild Gernanium Fund is based off of the microgrant model, which has been proven to be deeply effective in promoting positive change within communities. There are examples of this within education, health, and beyond.
