Many of you have heard me talk about how proud and honored I am to be working for Code Savvy- an organization that works to bring computer science and tech education to girls, children of color, and all others who are normally left behind in those worlds. More recently, those feelings have only grown, as we've shifted our work to addressing the needs of kids who are stuck at home, and their parents.
The video above is part of a series we created, that puts out weekly youth-centered challenges that focus on creating new things with computer science. The project engages kids, teaches them, helps them unlock their imaginations and connect with their peers, and gives parents the resources needs to talk with their kids, learn from and with them, and support them.
This is just one of the ways we are reaching out to kids across the state (and wider- anyone can log into our videos!) Code Savvy is an incredible organization, doing needed work in a difficult time, and it would mean the world to me if you would join my fundraiser for them.
Your donation will help us:
- Support Minnesota Educators: Educators are on the front-line, working to creatively connect and inspire the next Code Savvy generation and with your support we can provide them with online courses, professional development, tools and resources to make their task easier. We recently launched a Bytes of Information, a video series created by computer science educators, researchers and supporters that contain tips, resources and ideas that educators can use with students right away.
- Create Awareness: We produce completely free, hands on learning opportunities and videos like CS to Go and Bytes of Inspiration that help inspire creativity and learning in students and educators while they are staying at home. Follow us on social media to learn more! Links are below.
- Inspire more Kids: Our combined programs have reached over 38,000 kids across over 80 Minnesota school districts since inception, along with more than 3,300 of their educators, but we can do better with your help. Your support will help us create inclusive, equitable, and engaging online environments that support and sustain participation of kids from typically underrepresented groups in Computer Science.
Our current crisis makes Computer Science learning, and the ability to give kids ways to learn and explore from home profoundly important. With your support - this next generation will be better equipped to think creatively and tackle hard problems head on today and in the future.
