"I do not want kids to go through what I had to go through." - Abby Snider, Childhood Cancer Survivor
The CureSearch Colorado Community Leadership Board is thrilled to champion CureSearch this Colorado Gives! Our goal is to raise vital funds and increase awareness of the need for childhood cancer research funding.
CureSearch for Children’s Cancer is a 501(c)3 U.S.-based non-profit foundation that believes every child with cancer deserves a safe and effective treatment option. CureSearch is accelerating the development of new childhood cancer treatments by funding high-potential research projects with aggressive timelines to meet their end goal of developing treatments to save kids now.
In Colorado, Dr. Eric Kohler, a CureSearch Young Investigator awardee from the University of Colorado Cancer Center, is exploring a promising new treatment approach for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a rare blood cancer affecting children. CAR T-cell therapy is ideal for patients whose disease no longer responds to chemotherapy, as it relies on the immune system to eliminate leukemia cells. Dr. Kohler will develop two CAR T-cell approaches for AML, which will decrease the leukemia cells’ ability to avoid treatment and reduce toxicity in children with relapsed AML. Learn more here.
