As we approach Give to the Max Day, we want to introduce you to three new little Ruff Starters who came to us under urgent circumstances last week.
When a Good Samaritan noticed a cat in severe distress, she immediately contacted Ruff Start Rescue for help. The cat had already given birth to several kittens and was still in labor, struggling greatly. The family was rushed to our veterinary team, and we immediately sprang into action. Sadly, the mother was near death, with one kitten stuck in the birth canal. The other kittens, whose eyes were already opening, were at least 8-9 days old. Despite our best efforts, the mom was suffering, and we made the difficult decision to humanely end her pain.
However, there was hope. Three kittens—Pepperoni, Salami, and Pancetta—were strong and thriving. We quickly found an experienced foster who stepped in to care for them, and these tiny fighters were on their way to their new home.
Right now, these little ones are doing well. They’re being bottle-fed every 3-3.5 hours around the clock. They need to be gently stimulated before eating, mimicking the nurturing care a mother cat would provide. They mostly eat and sleep for now, but in the next week or two, they’ll start showing their playful personalities and interacting with each other more.
We were able to save their lives thanks to compassionate supporters like you. Our onsite veterinary team helps hundreds of animals each year, just like this family. Please consider making a #GTMD24 donation today, so we can continue providing lifesaving care for animals in need.
