States across America are facing so-called “academic freedom” laws or bills that challenge the established science in textbooks and threaten to undermine science education. This Giving Tuesday, November 27, Sigma Xi seeks to raise $5,000 or more to send subscriptions of American Scientist magazine to at least 250 high schools in vulnerable areas. These subscriptions will equip teachers with a supplemental source of evidence-based information to ensure that their teaching resources aren’t compromised. All donations over the $5,000 goal will be used to send American Scientist subscriptions to more schools.
High schools that will benefit from this campaign are primarily located in the following states:
Alabama
Arkansas
Florida
Indiana
Iowa
Louisiana
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
