Sierra Club Foundation - North Star Chapter

The Sierra Club Foundation’s mission is to promote efforts to educate and empower people to protect and improve the natural and human environment. As the fiscal sponsor of the charitable programs of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter, we provide resources to it and other nonprofit organizations to support charitable scientific, educational, literary, organizing, advocacy, and legal programs that further our mission.

The Sierra Club North Star Chapter is 50,000 Minnesotans working to help our communities flourish through environmental protection.

Issues are locally driven through collaboration between our local staff and out members and supporters and are carefully selected and planned to have the greatest environmental impact. We strive to create campaigns that will grow our base of supporters while leveraging strong ties to both our parent organization and local communities. 

Within our broad mission, we focus on five priorities:

1. Achieve clean, just, and equitable solutions to climate change;
2. Advance environmental justice across Minnesota
3. Safeguard lands and water from urgent threats
4. Decarbonize transportation by expanding transit, electrification, and land use improvements;
5. Getting Minnesotans outdoors.
