While freezing winter temperatures keep many adults indoors, children may want to play outside all day. Each year, emergency rooms in the United States treat thousands of children for injuries related to sledding and ice skating. Frostbite is also a threat for children (MN Dept. of Public Safety).
According to MN Dept. of Health, "Frostbite is a type of injury caused by freezing. It leads to a loss of feeling and color in the affected areas, usually extremities, such as the nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers, and toes. Frostbite can permanently damage the body, and in severe cases can lead to amputation (removing the affected body part)."
The Northeast Minnesota Region reaches freezing, record-breaking temperatures of 60 degrees below zero. To assist families with a much needed cold weather necessity, AEOA is hosting a Kids' Winter Boot Event.
All dollars raised will be used to purchase new pairs of Winter boots for local kids in need. In addition to accepting monetary donations through GiveMN.org, AEOA also accepts cash and check donations. For questions or more information, please visit our website at www.aeoa.org.
