Need
There are community-based athletic programs for students with disabilities. However, our region lacks an opportunity for these students to compete against other students from different communities. Since COVID, none of these types of events came back.
About the Event
The Minnesota River Valley Education District (MRVED) in conjunction with Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) are proud hosts of a new event designed specifically for students with disabilities. The MRVED UnstoppABLE Games will consist of a variety of athletic events in which our students will compete against others from other MRVED Districts. The event is open to students from the MRVED region and will take place on the campus of SMSU. There is no other event like this in our region and our hope is to be able to create an environment that mimics a Friday night football game or a packed gymnasium for a playoff basketball game. Students from your school/community will be participating in this event. In order to make this happen, we need financial support to make this the best experience possible for these exceptional students.
Goal: Our goal is to create an athletic event that is inclusive of every student despite any disability. Our hope is to send every student home with some type of award (ribbon, medal, trophy). We would also like to provide each participant with a commemorative t-shirt they can display proudly in their own communities.
