Support Mesabi Musical Theatre’s 2025 Production

The Iron Range needs a vibrant and engaging performing arts presence to remain a great place to live and visit. Mesabi Musical Theatre (MMT) seeks your valuable support to help us continue connecting community members on stage and in the audience.

Mesabi Musical Theatre began in 2002 to give high school students opportunities to participate in Broadway-style musicals, but we are now a community-driven nonprofit welcoming performers of all ages. Cast members include trained vocalists and dancers alongside debut actors who have found a new passion. We produce a full-scale musical in summer and a smaller performance in winter. Titles have included classic and modern favorites like The Sound of Music, Chicago, Footloose, and Matilda.

The production team (directors, music personnel, and technical staff) collaborates to maintain a consistent artistic vision and to stay within a set budget. Directors lead rehearsals to help actors feel comfortable on stage and deliver their best performances. Volunteers help build and paint the set and serve as ushers. A talented orchestra provides live music that complements singers’ voices.

According to the American Alliance for Theatre and Education, drama participation improves academic performance, school attendance, and reading comprehension. Actors of all ages build self-esteem, confidence, communication skills, and empathy. In addition, the 2017 Creative Minnesota Report showed that the Iron Range ranked “first in economic impact [of the 15 regions surveyed] from audience and organizational spending,” which totaled $12.3 million.

Contributions to our organization help pay for expenses like our dedicated production staff, performance royalties, facility rental, sets, and costumes. Our expenditures often exceed $30,000, and community support can help keep ticket prices affordable.

Our primary goal is to deliver high-quality productions that are entertaining and educational. Each actor and crew member will feel valued and will know that his or her contributions are part of a group effort to share art with the community.
