Food insecurity is defined by the United States Department of Agriculture as the lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life. Food insecurity is associated with numerous adverse social and health outcomes and is increasingly considered a critical public health issue. Key drivers of food insecurity include unemployment, poverty, and income shocks, which can prevent adequate access to food.
In Minnesota, 1 in 6 neighbors (483,000 people) experienced food insecurity in 2021. Additionally, 1 in 11 kids didn't have regular access to the nutrition needed to thrive. Further, seniors are the fastest-growing group of food pantry visitors.
A significant number of individuals and families in Northeastern Minnesota face challenges with food security, relying on a food shelf as part of their regular routine.
AEOA is proud to be the fiscal sponsor for several local shelves across the Arrowhead Region. Providing staples ranging from fresh produce to canned goods, food shelves are a valuable resource that provide households in need with access to healthy food. Our food shelves are committed to helping ensure that no one goes to bed hungry.
Your gift will help those who need it most. To give to a specific food shelf, include the name of the food shelf in the tribute or memorial dedication box after filling in your gift amount.
