Lexee Crystal is a teen on a mission. With the support and partnership of a local Non-Profit, Kids For A Better World, Inc. where kids are getting involved and making a difference, Lexee has chosen to help end youth homelessness in Minnesota and beyond.
After reading a statewide Wilder Research Study that was conducted in October 2013, Lexee felt compelled to learn more.
The study reported "young people are some of the least visible and most vulnerable facing homelessness. Statistic show that every night, 2500 Minnesota young people are homeless. This is very disturbing especially during Minnesota's harsh winters. Recent Surveys show that there are 5 key reasons people are homeless, they are:
1. The recession had a big impact
2. There is not enough affordable housing
3. Most homeless people have barriers to living independently
4. The path to adulthood is steep and rocky for some youth
5. Poverty is still concentrated among people of color: racial disparities exist.
This is most alarming, as Minnesota has the mostoverrepresentation of homelessness of person of color across all age groups than any other part of the Unites States.
The disparities are most prevalent among African Americans, especially in the Twin Cities, and American Indian people especially in greater Minnesota. These overwhelming statistics have moved Lexee Crystal to use her talents to bring awareness to this not so silent epidemic. As a artist, songstress, illustrator, actress, and model, Lexee will partner with local and national agencies, churches, and other non-profits to fight this battle that affects everyone. Lexee will start with her Motivational Tours.
She has experience working with urban/inner city schools, such as The City, Inc. PCYC, and MNIC all Minneapolis based. This 18 year old Alternative/Pop performer has a plethora of talent. Along with speaking and performing at various schools for her Motivational Tour, Lexee has also performed at the Target Center Liftkids Organizational Benefit Concert, Polar Bear fundraiser, MN Spokesman Recorder Graduation Celebration, and other venues.
Lexee has appeared on the "The Lemmy O' Show," The Art Cunningham Show and was the featured artist on Minnesota Hott Radio. As a model Lexee has appeared in a Sketcher's advertising campaign with world famous photographer to the stars, Rodelio "Rudy"Astudillo and photographer Jenn Hoffman as well.
Lexee has also appeared in advertisement ad for Pop Star magazine, featured in a commercial for NDSCS, and featured in a mini movie "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." If this is not enough Lexee has written/illustrated her third book in her comic book series titled "Samarakan" And last, but certainly not least, Lexee has recorded 4 singles, "Gypsy Caravan," Breathless," "I See" and "I'm Feeling Lucky", which is on the soundtrack for the upcoming romantic comedy Lucky Dog. Breathless was featured on a Christmas movie in 2012 called A Star For Christmas.
Lexee Crystal will use her vast array of talent and connections to bring awareness to Minnesota's Teen Homeless and believe that she will make a difference. Please visit Lexee Crystal at: www.lexeecrystal.com Twitter.com/ Welovelexee Lexee Crystal on Facebook
