The Northern Film Alliance (NFA) was founded in 2016 as a 501c3 nonprofit to serve as a managing organization for two film festivals - the Duluth Superior Film Festival and the EDU Film Festival. We immediately found a collaborator in George Reese and helped him to launch the NFA's third festival, the Minnesota Web Fest
Along the way, the NFA has become so much more than an umbrella organization for film festivals.
- We are committed to and support independent filmmaking and independent cinema
- We strive to be a solution to the lack of representation of women and people of color in positions of creative leadership in filmmaking
- We work to build an even stronger filmmaking community in Minnesota by training talented and educated crew members from the ground up.
One of the ways that we accomplish these goals is through the Horror High Film Camp. At Horror High, we cooperate with local filmmaking pros and educators to give young filmmakers an authentic filmmaking experience. Campers serve as members of the production crew, working with professional filmmakers to shoot a short horror film in a professional facility, using professional gear, and maintaining professional standards. Teenage crew members learn how a real film crew operates and ready themselves to join the film production workforce. If you want to know more about Horror High, check out the short doc above, the kids say it much better than I can...
We've also upped our profile this year by moving the Minnesota Web Fest to Duluth and collaborating with the Catalyst Content Festival to create the North Star Story Summit, a three festival event in the Duluth Superior Region that focuses on Film, Web, and Television content makers.
Your support helps to accomplish our goals and continue to create vibrant programming for Minnesota filmmakers of all ages.
Thank you!
