“I want to go to school, but there are no teachers…”

In Haiti, children will say they want to go to school. And, they will wake up each morning, get dressed, and go to their classroom – a classroom without a teacher. Most days there is a single blackboard in a room, with a few words scribbled on it. The children copy those words down in their notebooks, and then either return home or linger unsupervised on the school grounds.

Access to education in Haiti is not free and there are not enough schools or teachers. The average tuition for school is $80/child per year, excluding the cost of uniforms, books and supplies, and transportation. School is the last thing on families’ minds when it comes to their children because they simply cannot afford private tuition. In addition to the growing socio-political instability, Haitians face rising food insecurity and malnutrition, all while 25% of the population lives on less than $1/day USD.

Help us educate and feed the children of Haiti. Your gift of:

$3,000 – ensures a child receives hot lunch each day for the school year

$1,000 – covers the annual salary of one teacher

$500 – will employ one teacher, for six months

$350 – covers the cost of lunch for a child, for one month

$80 – ensures one teacher’s employment for a month

The children in Haiti, come to school having little to nothing to eat at home. School lunch is the only opportunity for a nutritious meal each day. The children need proper nutrition to succeed in school and live a healthy life.

The Lighthouse believes that every child in Haiti deserves a quality education and a qualified teacher, so they can thrive academically. With your help, we will supply at least six teachers for Ecole Mixte La Nativite and at least one hot meal a day for their students.

We support their right to go to school and learn, so they can receive the necessary skills to have a better future for themselves, their community, and their country.
