We don't sit in meditation to become good meditators.
We sit in meditation so that we'll be more awake in our lives.
- Pema Chödrön
Hello, hello!
Even if I wasn't the Executive Director of Clouds in Water, I would still be SO EXCITED about our second annual Sit-A-Thon!
Cultivating deep, nourishing silence and compassion, supporting others in this work of befriending ourselves - this is what I'm all about.
As Buddhists, when we sit, we actually sit for ALL beings. We believe in the ripple effect of this practice to bring more peace, love, and justice to our hurting planet. I know of no other practice that can meet what we're up against with such grace, resilience, courage, and tenderness.
Why Support Our Work?
From our services and classes throughout the week to our LGBTQ support, BIPOC sitting group, Racial Awareness Groups, Friday Night Zen, 12-Step Mindfulness Group, Youth & Family Program, and more, Clouds is passionate about creating and maintaining a thriving sangha that celebrates diversity. But we can’t do it without the generosity of people who believe that this ancient spiritual technology is vital, especially in these noisy, tumultuous times.
We are run primarily on (tax-deductible) donations and no one is turned away for lack of funds for any of our programming.
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, but it’s more than a way to raise funds–we hope that through sitting together, inviting others in our lives to join or support us, and encouraging meditators throughout the city to participate, we’re reminding our community that Clouds is a sanctuary.
Why I'm Meditating
It's always tough to describe the alchemy of this practice because it shows up differently for everyone, but I keep sitting because meditation transformed my life. It gave me an anchor in this raging storm of a world and helped me to befriend my mind and cultivate deep compassion toward myself and others.
I believe in the ripple effect of this practice.
I've seen, time and again, in my own life and in that of my students and those I meditate with, how simply sitting in silence can generate enormous change off the cushion. It's an intensely scary and uncertain time and this practice is tailor-made for navigating what it means to be human right now.
