Good things have been growing in Swede Hollow Park for a long time.
From the 1850s until the 1950s, this enchanting valley was once home to new residents to America from Sweden, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, and elsewhere. Since then it has become a unique green space and gathering area in the heart of St. Paul.
Friends of Swede Hollow (FOSH) partners with Parks and Recreation, other community organizations, and volunteers to preserve Swede Hollow Park's history and restore its natural beauty. FOSH also hosts community gatherings and events in this beautiful outdoor setting, which has inspired music by Peter Ostroushko and an original opera by composer Ann Millikan. It is a favorite venue for Mixed Precipitation's picnic operettas. The Art in the Hollow festival attracts talented local and regional artists and performers on the first Saturday in June each year.
