Ella Baker Global Studies and Humanities Magnet School promotes service learning, intergenerational collaboration, and inquiry-based learning.  Students are challenged to explore and examine the past, present, and future through a critical and global lens. The school's academics and social-emotional learning approach lead students to a broader understanding of themselves, their community, and the world.

We are in need to raise at least $50,000 in order to supplement the cost of end-of-year field trips for our students.  These trips will allow students to have a real-world exploration of daily learning and provide opportunities that many have never had to explore outside of Minnesota to better understand themselves, their community, and the world. The field trip components are selected by our students and embedded into their daily learning. The trips will be an opportunity to build their background knowledge and reinforces class content, and even gain high school credits.

The 7th graders will be going on a 4-day trip to Washington DC.  During their time there they will explore democracy and advocacy. This exploration of democracy and advocacy will include the National Museum of  African American History and Culture, The National Museum of the American Indian, and the United States Holocaust Memorial museum. We will also engage with members of the house and senate to advocate about issues most important to students.

The 8th graders will be traveling to Atlanta, Montgomery, and Birmingham to take part in the Ella Baker Civil Rights Tour and engage with elders about their real-life experiences.   This trip includes a visit to Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park and Birth Home, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Visit Museums and a Walking Tour of Montgomery, Visit the Rosa Parks Museum, Civil Rights Institute, and finally a visit to the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
