Semcac is seeking funding to construct a new facility on land purchased in Austin, MN - located in Mower County. The new facility will house:
- Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms - for approx. 100 income-eligible students (free pre-K education) & offices for Head Start staff.
- Mower County Contact Office - Outreach & Emergency Services offices for staff members (providing homelessness prevention, food security, government program application assistance, community resources/referrals, etc.)
- Office for Mower County Weatherization program staff.
- Commercial kitchen for Senior Nutrition program.
- This will allow for growth for this program, as more Mower County senior residents will be able to receive meals, more efficiently. Currently meals are prepared and transported from Freeborn County to Mower County meal recipients.
The agency would like to break ground on this project in 2024/25 and is in the process of seeking additional grant funding, whenever possible. An old TV station building that is currently on the land/site will be demolished prior to new construction.
