Return to School Year Programs
826 MSP has had a hard year financially. We did not receive some expected major grants and had to lay off some staff during the summer. We are taking the summer to regroup and prepare for the return of school year programs in September. It was heartbreaking to lose staff members and also heartwarming to see the people who care about 826 MSP come together and support us during this lean time. Let's show our support and try to raise $5,000!
826 MSP is an arts education nonprofit with a mission to amplify the voices, stories, and power of K-12 BIPOC students through writing, publishing, and leadership programs. We facilitate free youth writing, tutoring, publishing and leadership programs with schools and families.
We were established in 2009 in response to the educational opportunity gaps which persist in Minnesota due to systemic racism. To diminish these barriers, we connect a racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse array of young writers with 100 trained volunteers and professional artists each year, creating opportunities for positive relationships which span generations and cultures.
To date, we’ve served more than 8,500 Twin Cities youth, publishing thousands of poems, short stories, essays, and illustrations. As one of nine chapters in the largest network of youth writing centers in the country, 826 National, we reach readers and collaborate with communities nation-wide.
