Support for a Displaced Family in our Community
A nonprofit fundraiser supporting
Southeast Community Organization/District 1$200
raised by 6 people
$2,500 goal
On October 4, a shooting took place outside a local apartment complex in our district near McKnight Road. Three apartments were impacted by bullets which punctured the walls and hit water lines.
Three families were forced to relocated and we have been told their leases have been terminated altogether. One family with three young children and one on the way, and an elder with mobility issues, was forced to move to a shelter. There is a severe affordable housing shortage already, and very few rentals take section 8 vouchers that help with rent.
The family was forced to dispose of much of their furniture because of their move.
We are working with Councilmember Jane Prince to explore potential housing for this family. In the meantime, our hope is to raise enough money to give to the family to potentially find temporary safe housing such as at a live-in hotel. Funds may also be used for anything they need during this time of stress.
All funds will go directly to the family without our organization taking administrative fees. Please consider paying processing fees via GiveMN if you donate.
If you prefer to pay with a check, it can be mailed to our office at Southeast Community Organization, 2105 1/2 Old Hudson Road, St. Paul, MN 55119. If you with to donate cash, please contact us top arrange a drop-off time.
We will do our best to keep folks informed of the status of the family. Thank you!
