Project for Southwest Initiative Foundation

An affiliate of the Southwest Initiative Foundation, the Appleton Community Foundation benefits the Appleton area in Minnesota.

Mission Statement 

To be a permanent local catalyst, stimulating growth and the enrichment of the people of Appleton by inspiring leadership, hope, generosity, and the spirit of unity.

Grant total since inception (including grants made for operating expenses): $529,081

Fiscal Year 2017 Grantmaking

Awarded grants totaling $32,053, including:

'52 Wing Restoration Committee to frame the uniform owned by General Robert Miller

'52 Wing Restoration Committee for summer concerts in Appleton's Riverview Park

Appleton Area Chamber of Commerce:

  • to create a float for Miss Appleton royalty to ride in area parades
  • to update the light pole banners in the business district

Appleton Municipal Hospital & Nursing Home Foundation:
  • to support the Spring Salad Luncheon and silent auction
  • to provide a clothing label maker for residents at the Care Center
  • to purchase air conditioning for the north and south wings of the Care Center

City of Appleton: 

  • to construct a new restroom at Riverview Park
  • to create a mural on the '52 Wing Auditorium
  • to expand the city campground for additional hook-up spots
  • to install playground-certified wood chips and edging and update equipment at the armory playground
  • to install trail head markers and brochures to complete a walking loop of city park trails

First United Methodist Church to provide a weekend meal program for school-aged children

ISD #2853 - Lac qui Parle Valley: 

  • for headsets for football coaching staff
  • for iPads and cart at the Appleton-Milan Elementary School
  • for student tuition to attend Camp Buckskin
  • for the 9-12th grade Disney World band trip and workshop in Florida
  • to expand robotics to the middle school and junior high with a FIRST LEGO League
  • to provide baseball and softball game jerseys for summer recreation activities and reduce t-shirt costs for youth
  • to provide entertainment, food and prizes for a safe post-prom environment in 2017
  • to support field trips during the Summer Success program
