For the Love of a Child
Since 1923, the Twin Cities Women's General Auxiliary has worked to provide a loving and supportive environment for the children and families who receive critical medical care at Shriners Hospital. Our purpose is to assist children in reaching their full potential by providing medical equipment such as manual and power wheelchairs, walkers, and other durable medical equipment. In addition, the Auxiliary is staffed 100% by volunteers and there are no paid positions. *Nathan is 15 years old, he has been a patient at our hospital over the past several years. Having no arms or legs, Nathan has been conquering his physical challenges over the years. As Nathan grew, his wheelchair needs changed too. Last week Nathan received his third electric power wheelchair thanks to donations to the Women's Auxiliary Wheelchair Fund. It is amazing how he plays soccer in his power wheelchair. A special guard was made to fit on the front of his power wheelchair so he can push the ball up and down the field and into the net. I had the honor to meet with Nathan and his mother a few days ago. His mother's positive attitude reflected directly on her son and his smiling face showed a very bright young man. I am sure he will make his mark in the world some day.
