Every day of the year, the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota provides expert medical and rehabilitation care to injured, sick, and orphaned wild animals. We are one of the oldest wildlife hospitals in the nation, and our experienced team delivers expert medical and rehabilitation care to over 22,000 patients annually.
But at our core, we are a community-powered organization:
-You are the ambulance drivers who bring us injured, sick, or orphaned animals.
-We receive no state or federal operating funds—you fund our work.
-You are the volunteers who are essential to our operations. Our staff works with an incredible team of 500+ volunteers and 75 interns to meet the needs of our animals.
From treating a swan for lead toxicity to repairing a turtle’s broken shell, we are here to meet the needs of our local wildlife. As Executive Director Tami Vogel says, “Whether you are bringing in a patient, supporting us financially, or simply sharing our social media, compassion is at the heart of our work.”
Together, we make healing possible—one wild life at a time.
What's new at WRC?
-It’s baby season! Thousands of baby animals are beginning to stream through our doors as we ready our nurseries and stock our animal-care kitchen with formula, fruit, vegetables, fish, crickets, and mealworms. Over 10,000 baby animals will receive care from WRC this year.
-As WRC enters its 46th year, check out our spring newsletter to see how far we’ve come.
-On Jan 3, Governor Walz approved a statewide Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) surveillance effort in which WRC will be the primary collection site. Executive Director Tami Vogel says, “This enhanced surveillance allows for more timely identification of HPAI in the wild, facilitating informed decisions within our facility to ensure the continued health and safety of our patients. It also allows us to sample a broader range of species and better understand the clinical signs of the illness among wild animals. This helps us improve patient care while contributing to One Health initiatives and acquiring greater knowledge on the spread of HPAI.”
-Minnesota Conservation Volunteer recently featured WRC as being on the front lines of wildlife medicine and rehabilitation.
Our patients may not be able to say thank you, but we can. On behalf of all of our team and the animals in our care, thank you!
