The coronavirus pandemic has deeply affected our youth and families. Once the schools closed and eventually the shelter in place order, WE WIN staff jumped into action to support the needs of the families.
For #GiveathomeMN we created a campaign to conitnue our outreach efforts. Support our campaign, Support Youth & Families During the Pandemic.
For the last 24 years, WE WIN Institute, a non-profit educational community-based organization has been creating lasting impacts within Minneapolis serving youth and parents.
During a time when our youth are facing rising poverty rates and funding for after school programs has been cut from the top levels, we need your help more than ever to continue our positive impacts.
Your support allows our organization to build service capacity and develop our Rites of Passage after-school, summer school, Men & Women of Distinction, and Parents Make the Academic Difference programming.
WE WIN engages children, families, public systems, and the philanthropic sector, to create increased outcomes for Minneapolis students of color. WE WIN engages families that reside outside of the traditional approach out-of-school time programming.
WE WIN has made measurable strides in developing student competence and building active collaboration between schools, parents, and community organizations. WE WIN programs place an emphasis on core academic skills and youth participation in community service projects designed to connect them with their neighbors and encourage investment in the health and well-being of their community. Key direct service programs include:
Parents Make the Academic Difference (PMAD): We work with the parents of the children enrolled in our programs to support student success, community and parent engagement and a shift in behavior for the students. PMAD equips parents with the tools to effectively advocate for their children, academically and socially.
Youth Gardens (ages 5-15): The program teaches young people about the importance of food origins, eating healthy and sustainable food practices.
Rites of Passage (ages 5-18): Occurs during both in school and non-school hours. The focus is on student's academic and social development.
Women of Distinction (ages 14-18): Utilizes youth mentoring to create successes for students. Junior and senior high school girls mentor freshman and sophomore girls. Youth study together, go on college tours, participate in career exploration, and develop a sisterhood with each other.
Akoko Nan Men of Distinction (ages 8-12 ): Designed to assist boys in developing manhood skills, learning about and easing cultural trauma, and developing resiliency in face of systemic and social trauma. Through Circle, drumming, field trips, bonding activities, community service, art projects and journaling, youth develop strong relationships with responsible Black men and with each other.
WE WIN Institute creates academic, social, and familial SUCCESS!
WE WIN’s goal is to create an upward trajectory for success in at-risk youth and their families and which we have served over 4,500, creating long-term and systemic change in their lives and communities.
