First off, a big THANK YOU to you for your support of the West Concord Historical Society.  Without the donors and volunteers like you, we would not be able to continue our mission of keeping the heritage and history of West Concord alive.  We are over halfway to our goal to get the doors replaced going to the old gym. We are hopeful we will be obtaining a state grant to replace the roof above the gym and old library and assembly room.

Below is a picture of the roof above the gym taken during our annual inspection in March of 2024.  While it looks good and if functional for now, it does need repair work each year to fix trouble spots. But the time is short to when this will need to be totally replaced.  The gym, over our 30 years as a Historical Society Museum, has been the most used part of the museum.  Many events, like our annual Christmas Marketplace, pickleball, family reunions, Quinceanera's or athletic practices or just people who want a warm place to walk during the cold winter, the old gym truly is a Community Center.  Your donations will help keep it that way, literally and figuratively, the Center of our Community.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support.

Our Story:  This year, 2024, the West Concord Historical Society is celebrating 30 years as a Museum and Community Center.  It was organized in 1994 when the newly formed Triton School District sold the old West Concord High School/Grade School building to the Society.  The original part of the school building was built in 1902 with a south side addition in 1914.  The addition of the gym and some classrooms were added in 1936 as part of the WPA.

The building is now a museum with many of the old classrooms displaying various artifacts. There's the 50's and 60's era room, a military room, a 1930's classroom display, the Cardinal room, which is a WCHS sports and memorabilia room, an extensive Boy Scout display, plus a research room with old local newspapers, old school papers and old yearbooks and pictures.

Below is a picture of one of our most prized possessions, the mural, which was painted in the late 1930's. A story about this mural was featured in one of our recent newsletters.  If you aren't getting a WCHS newsletter, it could be you are not a member of the WCHS.  Please consider becoming a member.

It’s been a labor of love and hard work to get the museum to where it is today.  It hasn’t been easy over the past 30 years but it's certainly been worth the effort.   And it’s been a community effort. Volunteers through the years have put in many, many hours.  But work like this takes substantial funding.  Upkeep on an old historical building like this can be frustrating and challenging at times, but also very rewarding.

                                                                                                         A GIFT FOR YOU!

Look below and you will find a new video of the Historical Society, superbly photographed and produced  by Dahni (Iverson) Lermon, Class of '72.   One of the biggest gifts of this past year was Dahni's return to the Museum as our Display Director.  Her talent as an interior designer, her knowledge about and interest in history, and her determination to unclutter, clean,  and give every artifact its due, has been a greatly appreciated contribution.   You will see what we mean when you watch the video.  Your job is to notice the Entrance, the Veterans Room, the Shell Room, the Boy Scouts Display, the Mary Delzer Room, the Gymnasium, the Farmers and Merchants Room, the Fire and EMS Display, the Heritage Room, the Hallway of Class Pictures, the Cardinal Room, the 50's/60's Room, the Fashion Room, the Toy Display, Doc Evans' new cabinet, and the Flame Room.  Have a fun tour!  If you didn't notice all those places the first time, have a second watch or more!  Come visit us in person if you can.  But if you are too far away, this video is the next best thing!

We thank you for stopping by this site and for your interest in the WCHS. To make your donation click on the red "Donate" button above or below.  Your support is greatly needed and much appreciated.

  Thank you very much!
