The food shelf is a ministry of Way of the Lord church. It began as a vision of a couple of people whose goal is to provide food, friendship, encouragement through compassion to those in our local communities, and has grown to include a multi-generation volunteer base. 

In 2014, we were blessed to receive a grant from United Way to purchase and install a walk-in freezer and refrigerator so that we would be able to provide more meals to those who come each month. The former garage building was remodeled and expanded to house a walk-in freezer and refrigerator, allowing us to add produce, meat, and dairy. 

However, the community we serve continues to expand. In January of 2014 we served 271 people, but by September of that same year, we were serving 421 people. The food shelf averages about 10 new families every time we open (2nd  & 4th Tuesday from 2:30-5:30). This year alone, we've been able to give over 60,000 lbs. of food. 

A common misconception about food shelves is the food we are able to provide is completely free for our organization. We actually purchase (or pay at least a shipping per pound) for our food. And we have to pay for the delivery of the food, which can become quite costly. Donations would be going to get a vehicle that would allow us to pick up directly from local groceries stores within our alliance with Second Harvest. It would reduce some of the delivery costs and the food would reach our families more directly.

Every contribution helps us provide food for the community. A $10 donation can provide meals for multiple meals for 5 families.
