Walker Area Food Shelf

The Walker Area Food Shelf's Mission is to assist individuals who are in need of food, striving to preserve dignity, extend respect and maintain confidentiality to all clients. Our goals include educating clients on other services they may be eligible to receive, promoting good nutrition by providing healthy food selections and developing interactions between clients, staff and volunteers.

In our community, many families struggle to access enough food. Rising costs, job changes, health issues, or just plain bad luck can make it hard for people to get the food they need. For some, transportation is an obstacle — getting to the grocery store is a big challenge. For others, budgets are simply too tight, with rent, utilities, and medical bills eating up nearly every dollar. Food shouldn’t be the thing people have to sacrifice, but that’s often the case.

At Walker Area Food Shelf, we’re committed to solving this problem. Our mission is to make sure food is provided for any person who is in need. We’re here to help bridge that gap by providing nutritious food to families, seniors, and individuals who need it. We meet people where they are, with respect and dignity, offering fresh food, pantry staples, and even special items for personal use and household needs. Our approach is unique because we listen, we care, and we’re part of this community. We know our neighbors and are in this together.

With this increase, comes a responsibility for our organization to purchase and store an increased amount of food.  We have also had to make changes to our building to ensure safety for all and purchase supplies like PPE and cleaning products at an exponential rate over any other year. All of these changes have added to an increase in expenditures that were not planned or budgeted. We are hopeful that this campaign will help to offset some of those expenditures in the future.

Every dollar helps to ensure that no child, adult or senior citizen in our area has to go to bed hungry!
