At UpTurnships, we’re breaking down inequitable barriers and building durable bridges to employers committed to creating a racially inclusive, equitable workforce that will increase access for underrepresented and under resourced college students to paid internship opportunities.  

UpTurnships, gives college students the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to position themselves for successful careers. We strive to help highly motivated students from under resourced and underrepresented backgrounds find gainful, meaningful employment. Our mission is to build a more equitable, racially diverse workforce.

Through programming, mentorship, and partnership, we address the inequities that exist in Minnesota’s hiring practices. UpTurnships focuses on early and future career readiness. Our organization works to build a pipeline so that not only do our UpTurns have access to good-paying jobs at top employers, but so that they can excel in those positions as well.

UpTurnships is more than an internship. As an equity-minded organization, we are building confidence in our UpTurns to take on bigger & bolder challenges. We also work with our employer partners to heighten their efforts to be culturally inclusive. This work is made possible with the help of this great community.

Who We Serve

• 92% of UpTurns are under resourced and pell grant eligible
• 76% are first generation college students
• 84% are students of color

Our Impact

UpTurnships ultimate goal for UpTurns is to receive a full-time, family sustaining wage job in their field of study after graduation. The following results are from the graduating classes of 2019-2021. The results of this survey demonstrate the impressive outcomes of these alumni within two years of graduating college.

• 100% graduated from college with a bachelor's degree
• 95% of Alumni had a full-time job within 2 years of graduating
• 88% of those employed had a full-time job within 6 months of graduating
• 93% of those employed are employed in their field of study
