And UnRestrict Minnesota is the coalition ensuring abortion access remains available across the state. UnRestrict Minnesota is a multi-racial coalition of LGBTQ+ advocates, faith communities, clinicians, activists, doctors, abortion funds, lawyers, organizers, healthcare clinics, doulas, podcasts, and more.
UnRestrict Minnesota works to protect, expand, and destigmatize access to abortion care–and all reproductive healthcare—in Minnesota through public education, advocacy, and the law.
Our vision is to achieve full reproductive justice, an organizing framework created by Black women where every person has the ability to decide if, when, and how to become a parent; raise healthy children in safe and thriving communities; and have gender freedom and bodily autonomy.

The vast majority of Minnesota’s restrictions on abortion care are no longer on the books.
In 2019, a coalition of Minnesota advocates, including two health care providers, the First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, and Our Justice, filed a lawsuit challenging a number of abortion restrictions currently on the books in Minnesota. The plaintiffs were represented by Minnesota legal and policy advocacy organization Gender Justice and The Lawyering Project. The lawsuit, Doe v. Minnesota, argued that these restrictions harmed patients and were unconstitutional.
In July 2022, just weeks after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, a state district court judge agreed in large part, ruling that many of Minnesota’s abortion restrictions violated the right to an abortion under the Minnesota Constitution, as well as other constitutional provisions. The court further held that the Minnesota Constitution protects not just a fundamental right to choose abortion, but also a fundamental right to access abortion care.
In November 2022, Minnesota voters elected the state’s first pro-reproductive-freedom legislative majority in history.
And in the 2023 legislative session, lawmakers enshrined in Minnesota law everyone’s right to make and act on their own decisions about the full range of their reproductive health care options (including abortion), instituted strong protections against legal attacks by out-of-state anti-abortion extremists for everyone who seeks, provides, or helps someone get abortion care in Minnesota, and repealed the vast majority of Minnesota’s restrictions on abortion care.
Despite these wins, significant barriers to abortion and other reproductive health care access are still keeping too many people in Minnesota from getting the care they need, when they need it. Our Minnesota Beyond Roe legislative agenda is a roadmap for clearing those barriers away and further advancing and defending the promise of full reproductive freedom for everyone in Minnesota and everyone who comes here seeking care.
For those already struggling financially, the cost of abortion care can be prohibitive, and it isn’t always covered by insurance. With your support, UnRestrict Minnesota is working to ensure equitable and affordable access to abortion care by expanding insurance coverage and augmenting it with financial assistance.
Anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers (“CPCs”) target pregnant people to prevent them from obtaining abortion services using any means necessary, including delay tactics, disinformation, and deception. They outnumber abortion clinics 11 to 1 in Minnesota.
With your support, we can work to clear away those barriers away once and for all. Together, we can fulfill the promise of reproductive rights, justice, and health care access for all Minnesotans—and everyone who comes here seeking care. Support this coalition today with your financial gift.
