Upper Midwest Flute Association

Our vision is to be the premiere flute association in the Upper Midwest. 

UMFA’s Mission:

Our mission is to connect people from all backgrounds with a passion for the flute in the Upper Midwest through a variety of educational programs, performance opportunities, networking events, and youth-focused Scholarship programs. A sampling of recent offerings includes: 

• An annual Flute Fest featuring workshops, masterclasses, exhibits, and guest artists such as The Fourth Wall, Project Trio, Adam Sadberry, and Dr. Rachel Haug 
• Masterclass and recital by Dr. Martha Councell-Vargas 
• Pedagogy webinar presented by Dr. James Brinkmann 
• Flute Choir Showcase, an annual performance featuring flute ensembles from around the region 
• Cash prize competitions including Young Artist (ages 18 - 30), Laudie Porter (grades 7 - 12), and Adult Amateur 
• Student scholarships awarded 3x per year to defray the cost of private lessons, masterclasses, music camps, and more 
• Marathon Concert fundraiser to support our scholarship fund 

In order to continue offering first rate experiences while simultaneously paying our guest artists a living wage, keeping registration costs low, and funding student scholarships, we aim to raise $5000 through Give to the Max. An anonymous donor will match the first $1000 so you can double your gift by giving early.
