If you're looking to support...
Independent Film and Nonprofit Journalism
...you've come to the right place!
The Reporters Inc. is a 501(c)(3) journalistic production house based in Minneapolis, though our audience is national. We promote social awareness, encourage social change and champion social justice through powerful multimedia storytelling. We focus on subject matter that's often avoided, ignored, overlooked, misrepresented or underrepresented by other media. (For more details about The Reporters Inc., click on the "Our Mission" tab above.)
We rely on the generous, fully tax-deductible contributions of people like you to fund our reporting -- and to donate during our annual end-of-year fundraiser!
Here's what we do:
Independent Documentaries
The Reporters Inc. creates and produce educational, historical, cultural and current events documentaries across the globe. Our Peabody, Murrow and Emmy award-winning team of journalists and videographers investigate socially relevant topics through the extraordinary stories of ordinary people.
Our projects are designed to inspire and enlighten you, to elicit meaningful dialogue, root out misinformation, dispel stereotypes and prejudices, and challenge the status quo. We tell stories that help you better understand the lives of others, and in the process, examine, analyze and reflect on your own life.
We're currently completing our documentary project, "What Really Happened to Natalie Beard?" It focuses on the story of Audrey Edmunds (above), a Wisconsin mother of three who was convicted in 1995 of killing a baby (Natalie Beard) in her care. She served more than 11 years in prison before the Wisconsin Innocence Project successfully fought to overturn her conviction.
Your donations help us pay our producers, videographers, researchers and writers.
Our 2024 donors will receive an exclusive private link to "What Really Happened to Natalie Beard?" -- becoming the first to view, and review, this documentary before it's released to the public! AND, we'll put YOUR NAME in the CREDITS!

In-Depth Articles
On our website, we publish original news analyses, feature stories, commentaries and essays, as well as exclusive book excerpts and investigations. Our articles are intended to create a community conversation for you online. We have the time, the talent, and the experience to dig deeply into a story.
Just as we do with our documentaries, we retain complete editorial control over our written journalistic work but we rely on donors like you to help us pay our freelance reporters and writers.
Just as we do with our documentaries, we retain complete editorial control over our written journalistic work. Here are some 2024 examples -- you can read them in their entirety on our website at www.thereporters.org:
Help Us Meet Our Match!
Journalism like ours strives to make a difference, but in this polarized era when the media is being labeled "fake," corrupt," or "the enemy of the people" by those who fear truth and facts, it's become increasingly difficult.
With that said, we couldn't be more thrilled to share that The Reporters Inc. has been selected (for the fourth year in a row) to participate in NewsMatch—a national matching-gift campaign sponsored by the Institute for NonProfit News. It drives donations to nonprofit news organizations (like us!) around the country.
And this year, there's even more great news!
Between November 21 and December 31 2024, NewsMatch, along with an assist from the McKnight Foundation, will TRIPLE every donation The Reporters Inc. receives, up to $8,000. So, if you donate $5 we receive $15; $25 is tripled to $75; a $100 contribution jumps to $300. And on and on…
If or when we reach the $8,000 mark in donations, NewsMatch will continue to DOUBLE donations after that, up to $15,000. In total, that means we're eligible for $23,000 in matching funds this year!
As a small nonprofit, with no salaried staffers, this is a big deal. It will enable us to double both our output and our impact.
They believe in us, and we hope you do, too. Invest in nonprofit news and independent film--and put facts before profits.
Give today and Newsmatch will double your generosity and match your donation, dollar for dollar!
The Bottom Line...
Whether it's a groundbreaking independent documentary, a thought-provoking online article, or a powerful service-oriented video, The Reporters Inc. presents stories that will linger in your mind and simmer in your consciousness. We produce work that matters, and work that makes a difference.
