The Camden Promise

The Camden Promise is a 501C-3 nonprofit partnership between Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Evangelist Temple and Brooklyn Center 7th Day Adventist congregations serving the Camden Community of Minneapolis.

Our History

Since 1893, Gethsemane Lutheran Church has served families in the Camden Community on the north side of Minneapolis. Over the years, changing community demographics created the opportunity for Gethsemane to share worship space with two other congregations: Evangelist Temple and Brooklyn Center 7th Day Adventist. Recognizing the significant needs of their community, these three congregations formed a unique, collaborative, partnership, The Camden Promise, a 501 (C) (3) nonprofit. The Camden Promise brings together the rich cultural heritage of these congregations - Latino, African American and Norwegian/European, for the purpose of serving some of the most basic needs of their surrounding neighbors as they model their name and tagline, The Camden Promise, Building Hope...Together.

What We Do

• A client choice Food Shelf that has served over 1700 people.
• An amazing Awesome Summer Kids program that supported 30 young people in our community.
• An Afterschool Tutoring program called TCP After School Kids serving 15 youth across grade levels and subject areas during the week.
• Breakfast and a Bag where the community can get a hot breakfast and a bag of groceries two Sundays a month.
• Weekly Hot Dog BBQ during the summer months that serves more than 100 people every Wednesday.
• A yearly Block Party that served more than 300 people last August.
• An ambitious plan to expand the programs we have and add more.

What Your Donation Does

The Camden Promise plans on engaging with our community around the issues of chronic un/underemployment.  Give to the Max day supported our summer program, put food on the food shelf shelves, and helped to support the hiring of our executive director.
