The Rescue Pack is a dedicated animal rescue organization focused on helping local animals in need. This Give to the Max Day, we’re seeking a community of committed donors to join us in making a real difference. Recurring donors are the life support of non-profits and enable us to continue our work.
Animal rescue is full of surprises! Some days, we’re providing daily care for our animals, while other days, an emergency arrives, requiring urgent and costly medical attention. A dependable group of sustaining donors enables us to respond, no matter what. Together, we can accomplish incredible things for animals in need!
Elise & Earl: A Story of Two Broken Hearts
At the start of this year, fate brought us Elise and Earl. The urgent needs of these sibling animals meant we focused all our efforts on their care, putting fundraising on hold until their medical treatments were nearly complete. Now, we’re reaching out for support—not only for Elise and Earl but also for all the animals who will come our way. Here’s their story: A Journey of Hope and Healing.
At just 8 weeks old, Elise and Earl arrived at The Rescue Pack, alongside their littermates and mama. While most of their family quickly found forever homes, Elise and Earl faced a daunting challenge: both were diagnosed with a hea
rt murmur by Dr. Kevin Roeser, that required further testing.
They were cared for in a loving foster home, without showing any immediate signs of distress. However, a preliminary echocardiogram in December 2023 revealed severe pulmonary valve stenosis in Elise, a condition that makes her heart work much harder than it should. Earl’s diagnosis was similar but less severe. The next step would be to be seen at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center in the Cardiology Department.
On January 4, 2024, Elise was seen at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center, where the prognosis became dire. With the severity of her diagnosis, it required urgent intervention through balloon valvuloplasty. Without this procedure, her chances of survival within the months were frighteningly low.
Against all odds, Elise underwent the surgery on January 31, 2024. Weighing only 2 pounds, the procedure was risky, but she emerged victorious, full of newfound energy and spirit.
Earl’s appointment on May 4, 2024, confirmed his condition as mild, offering hope for his future. Both kittens are due for follow-ups in November 2024, and they continue to grow stronger together, their bond deepened by their shared journey.
Through the unwavering support of The Rescue Pack, we have covered the costs of their treatments. Now, we turn to you. Your generosity allows us to continue saving lives like Elise and Earl's—kittens who have shown us that even broken hearts can heal with a little love and care.
