StrongHearts Native Helpline is a vital resource dedicated to supporting American Indian and Alaska Native individuals impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Established in 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, it emerged from a collaborative effort between the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. Recognizing the disproportionately high rates of violence faced by Native communities and the limited outreach for assistance, StrongHearts was conceptualized as a culturally-specific support system, equipped to understand the unique challenges, including tribal sovereignty and law, within our communities.

Based in Minnesota, StrongHearts Native Helpline extends support throughout the U.S., providing an anonymous, confidential, 24/7 helpline service for individuals affected by domestic, dating and sexual violence. Through our toll-free number 1-844-7NATIVE (762-8483), online chat at strongheartshelpline.org, or text messaging, our helpline offers:

1. Peer support.
2. Crisis intervention.
3. Safety planning assistance.
4. Education and information about domestic violence.
5. Referrals to Native-centered domestic and sexual violence service providers.

StrongHearts is proud to have a fully Native American team of 20 advocates and a Board consisting entirely of Native American/Alaska Native members. Moreover, 94% of the Leadership staff also identify as Native American.

StrongHearts emphasizes the importance of cultural understanding and respect, ensuring that every interaction is handled with sensitivity and awareness of the unique contexts of Native American and Alaska Native communities. This service stands as a beacon of hope and support, helping to restore safety and dignity within Native communities and our relatives.
