If fear is contagious, why can’t kindness be?

“Changing the world starts on a micro level. It starts with showing up and being kind to the person right in front of you.” - Founder, Katie Steller

The Steller Kindness Project started as one red salon chair transported by SUV to the corners of highway exits providing a moment of solace and free haircuts to individuals in need. Today, SKP has bloomed into a nonprofit bringing meaningful community connection and volunteer opportunities showing value and kindness to those who are often overlooked and underserved in our community.

We all drive by people every day who are asking for help. Our initial thoughts might be laced with judgment, assumptions or discomfort. This project continues to challenge these reactions and shed light on the shared human experience. That person you may be driving by has experienced pain, joy and everything in between - just like you. People don't need to be saved, they need to be seen, and we all have the capability to do that.

It is our belief that we all have the opportunity, no matter our platform, to show up and advocate for the people in our communities. As our platform grows, so do our dreams and goals. We invite you to continue to be a part of our impact and momentum.

This Give to the Max Day help the Steller Kindness Project raise $15,000 to support:

  • Purchasing 10 lightweight red salon chairs on wheels
  • Establishing a sustainable nonprofit infrastructure
  • Extending our capacity to create more opportunities for volunteers to show up in their communities with kindness and value!
