In this month of Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for your continued support of programs at SCLA. Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day is November 21, and we’ve been blessed with a donor who is providing up to $20,000 in matching gifts for monies raised, with our own extended deadline of December 1 if you give on StCroixLutheran.org/Giving. 

Building Up Career and Technical Education

Paul Weihing, retired SCLA instructor, left a legacy at SCLA by starting Applied Technologies courses in 2011. His initial goal was to provide a hands-on experience for students to learn life skills. He did that by offering both woodworking and a small engines class in a repurposed maintenance garage. His dream was always to grow the program and expand its offerings.

Mr. Weihing retired in 2024 and passed the baton to Mr. Phil Sundblad. Mr. Sundblad has big plans for expanding the program, but we need your help to fund the dream. We’re asking you to support the Career and Technical Education fund so that he can fill the shop with the machinery and equipment needed for a successful and modern program. Mr. Sundblad shares why his classes are so important, “SCLA’s mission is to educate the total student. CTE classes succeed in teaching students how to apply skills; teach a discipline that requires safe and precise operation of equipment while being creative; and are impactful because they help students develop practical skills and prepare them for college and careers.” With a beautiful vision like that, the program will continue to impact the lives of our students for years to come.
