Our Mission: Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) is a regional development and philanthropic organization that fosters economic and community vitality in 20 counties of southern Minnesota through a culture of collaboration and partnership.

 

SMIF is a regional foundation established by the Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation in 1986. In the past 30 years, SMIF has advanced economic development in the 20-county region with total investments of more than $100 million. This is all possible because of donors like you. 

 

In addition, SMIF has leveraged an additional $10 for every $1 raised to support economic, early childhood and community development. These dollars support a consistent vision: a prosperous and growing region with vibrant communities, innovative and successful economies, and engaged and valued citizens.
